Plaka/Mavros Molos Beach

Kissamos has one main beach, which is within walking distance from the town centre. The beach has two names. On the Eastern side it is called Plaka and on the Western part is called Mavros molos. It is a sandy beach with shallow waters and has acquired blue flag for it’s clear and healthy waters. This beach is located between St.Damialis church to the west and Drapanias beach to the east.

In this beach, you will also find the sand daffodil beautiful, to some, plant that overwhelms the dunes of Crete from August to October. Unfortunately, in recent years the population has been decreasing and now it is limited to a few beaches. The daffodil lily is now considered an endangered species and is protected by Greek and international laws.

The beach is approx 1 Km long and well organised for the most part of it due to the many establishments that can be found there. Starting from the eastern side of the beach Plaka, we come across the hotel Nautilus followed by the Plaka beach restaurant. In front of these two establishments, you will find sunbeds and umbrellas you can utilize. Then there is a large part where you can place your own umbrella or sea-towel to enjoy the sun.

Further down the beach, we come up to the Maria beach restaurant and hotel, followed by mavros molos beach restaurant, Roubini beach snack bar, Aphrodite beach hotel, Molos bay hotel and finally Elena beach hotel.

In most of the above establishments, you can use the sunbeds and umbrellas as well as enjoy a drink, snack or a meal.
